Information on the history of the Bell Inn is taken from John Bailey's book "Finedon otherwise Thingdon" with his kind permission.
The original Bell Inn was situated 150 Yards to
the west of the current Inn along what was Bell lane, (possibly the original
Wellingborough Road). TheEarliest record found of the Bell Inn is in the court
book of 1671, when Henry Wallis was landlord. The transfer to the current Bell Inn was made by 1831.
The original building, a farm house, dates from 1598 although the current look
was constructed by Mr Mackworth - Dolben in 1872.
Here we see a picture of the Bell Inn dated 1890. We can see the thatched roof, and of course the car park entrance is not yet constructed.
During the night of 19th. June 1747 at the original Bell Inn a 15 month old child dressed in a purple and white linnen frock was left at the door laid on two feather pillows lying in a sievelett.
Some interesting church records show,The Overseer of the Poor's accounts for 1716 which shows "Paid our charges at the bell 3s. 6d."
